Bang! went the trailer door as it opened and all of the ponies were lead out into the wide open field. Once, and not too long ago, I was on a fox hunt on Boxing Day with my pony club at a cattle ranch in Anza.
As I mounted, my pony Maryland was as frisky as could be and as soon as I could snap we were off. The group started off at a walk and trot then a canter, but Maryland mistook it for a gallop so she took off. I tried to stop her but she kept on going until she raced into a bunch of bushes and stopped herself. No one had fallen off so we kept on going. After awhile we came across a small stream that I thought Maryland would walk across but she jumped it like it was nothing. When we came to a fence Kiersti jumped off to open the gate. I stopped and all of a sudden Maryland shook her whole body and I almost fell off. After Kiersti hopped back on we headed for a steep hill and we let the horses graze for a bit. Later Maryland almost stepped onto a cactus but luckily she did not. We started down the hill and on our way we found a hound away from his group who followed us back to the starting point. He found his companions and our long ride was over even though it only felt like I'd been riding for two minutes.
That day I felt like a door opened up to a whole new world. I accomplished a lot because I learned more about how to communicate with Maryland. I trust her and she did her best to help me feel confident in my riding. I hope we ride through that door together many more times to explore that exciting world of fox hunting and FUN!

The First Fox Hunt for SCRPCRC
A few years ago I became hooked on fox hunting! And thought that the only thing that could make it better was if we had our pony clubbers out there too.
We took 5 pony clubbers + me on C’est la Vie out for Boxing Day. I think it’s safe to say they all had a blast! Everyone rode great and the ponies were super stars! Beautifully turned out (Kenzie did a great job braiding) and fit too! They jumped logs and had some of the longest canters of their life. Champ thought that hunting was a great idea but seemed to miss the memo about chasing a coyote, instead he loped around like a true hunter and liked going to, Grass Bell ( Taco Bell) down and up ( IN and OUT) Grass King and Garner JR…. I think you get my drift, just some of the names that came up while hunting. The ponies loved crossing the rivers and streams and trotting through mini bogs! Great job to everyone for taking superb care for your ponies!
